Accumulated clutter, wilting flowers and plants, plastic bags and the detritus of human existence are all celebrated by this important Australian artist whose realist style is unique for the quirky subjects captured. A blend of Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot, it has a range of flavours, including ripe plumbs, a little char and a lovely savoury undercurrent. The packaging is extremely contemporary, with its wraparound label and striking graphics. * *Toni Patterson - Wine:What To Drink 2008| -click here to view clipping Shelmerdine White Hat This is great little drop from Shelmerdine Vineyards in the Yarra Valley. Its charm lies in its range of flavours, coming from a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier and Savignon Blanc. There is a mix of stone fruit, melon and gooseberry on the nose and ripe fruit flavours on the palate. The acid is lively and chalky and the sweet fruit flavours linger on the finish. * *Noosa Style july-september 07| -click here to view clipping THE RED HAT SHELMERDINE WINES has proudly announced the launch of THE HAT, a wine that links Shelmerdine's past with the present day city of Melbourne. THE HAT celebrates those things that make Melbourne unique - laneway bars, hidden shopping treasures, street posters and the social nature of the city. Featuring cutting edge label design and top quality Victorian fruit THE HAT captures the essence of Melbourne - Individual, Self Assured, Stylish and Approachable. Luckily for us all - it's also available to red wine lovers who don't live in Melbourne! THE HAT pays tribute to the history of the Shelmerdine family from their beginnings as hat manufacturers in 1802 in the UK, to establishing Australia's first felt hat factory in Collingwood in 1876. SHELMERDINE WINES Proudly Making Hats Since 1802. * *Ralph Kyte Powell - The Age Epicure 12/09/06: White Hat 2006| -click here to view clipping The Shelmerdine family that produced this wine once made hats, hence the name. This wine is made from Yarra Valley chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. The Viognier comes to the fore in pungent floral, spice and apricot aromas. A whisper of oak adds dimension; it lacks a little weight mid-palate but has good strength and style. Ageing? Drink over the next year or so. Food ideas: Chinese barbecued chicken; vegetable and tofu stir-fry. Stockists include: Acland Cellars, St Kilda; Windsor Castle, Windsor. ****$$ * *Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front: Wine of the Week: 24/08/06| -click here to view article Red Hat Heathcote Shiraz Cabernet Merlot 2004 ($17.99) screwcap: Get onto this. It's a bargain beauty bottler. It's a new label from Shelmerdine Vineyards and it's lipsmackingly delicious - this is an absolute joy to recommend. Blackcurrant, cloves, eucalypt and very subtle vanillin - it's regional and soft and flavoursome and balanced, and as soon as I opened it I couldn't stop drinking it. This is what good quality, highly drinkable, Australian red wine is supposed to be all about. It's a steal. Drink: 2006-2010. 90 points. * *Tim White - Australian Financial Review 04/08/06: Size doesn't matter.| Smaller Vineyards show off their top drops at this year's Sydney expo ...debutante The Hat label from Shelmerdine, which is labelled like a Melbourne city laneway stuck with posters ... got my vote for the best labelling - or at least the most wacky - at the show. * *Lillian Frank - The Herald Sun 05/08/06: Red hat trick| -click here to view clipping The invitation to the launch of The Hat, a new wine brand, was the largest and one of the most unusual I've received. It was appropriately a large red hat. The new wine, the latest release from the Shelmerdine Family, celebrated the family's connections to the titfers, as proprietors of Australia's first felt-hat factory opened in Richmond in 1876. Will (taking time out from his work at Government House) and Matt Shelmerdine were at the launch with friends Lauren Young, Kee Dorey, Charles Milne and Charlotte and Zoe Weir. * *MX (Melbourne) 10/08/06: New Flavours| -click here to view clipping Shelmerdine has put a brim on its new brand of red and white bottled wines. The Hat is a wine that pays homage to the Shelmerdine family history as hat manufacturers, establishing the first felt hat factory in Collingwood in 1876. The wines also celebrate the present quality of Melbourne's hidden and sophisticated laneway life. The official launch, just two weeks ago in Crossley Lane at the Bellavista Social Club, was so popular it was standing room only. The Victorian fruit blends used in the Hat varieties aim to capture the essence of Melbourne - individual, self-assured, stylish and approachable. Hey, don't take our word for it, taste it for yourself. * *City Weekly 03/08/06: Hats off to taste| -click here to view clipping It's a simple concept and one that's sure to catch on. Shelmerdine Vineyards have launched Red Hat and White Hat - wines with funky labels and a great taste. The launch at Bella Vista Social Club had a cool, laid-back vibe and groovy crowd that was relaxed and fun. Glasses were constantly filled by friendly waiters and the wines went down a little too well. Red Hat and White Hat retail for about $18. * *Ralph Kyte-Powell and Sally Gudgeon - The Age Uncorked 12/11/2006: Red Hat Shiraz Cabernet Merlot 2004, $18 ****| -click here to view clipping An easy-drinking and food-friendly wine, this is a somewhat retro blend of shiraz, cabernet and merlot that comes from the renowned Shelmerdine vineyards in Heathcote, Victoria. It's juicy but savoury and very more-ish.
Great value. Food Veal chops.
